Fwd: Discovery Place Today We...

From Colin's class:

Today the kids were given the opportunity to color under the table. Paper was taped to the underneath side of the little table and a small container of crayons were left on the floor. Changing perspectives allows a whole new experience to evolve from a simple activity. The kids enjoyed the new experience but it was difficult to get good pictures of the activity.

Scissors are such a difficult but valuable fine motor activity.  We started practicing scissors with a small group today.  Some of the children got the hang of scissors quickly, while others tried, and tried again.  This is an activity that we expect to take a lot of practice before the kids can even hold the scissors properly... Eventually some of these little problem solvers ditched their scissors and opted to just rip their paper!! It was perfect :)

We started a holiday painting project to give our room some Christmas cheer! We used reindeer and Christmas tree cookie cutters to print onto red and green paper.  This was a challenging activity for the class because it required them to really think about the step by step process.  First, they had to dip the shapes into paint, and then carefully press them down onto the paper before lifting them up.  Most of the paintings show the trial and error process, which is a key part of the learning experience.
