This morning in room 7 we added rolling pins and geometric cookie cutters to the playdough table. Colin and Gage liked using the rolling pins to roll out the playdough. Addie and Lucy liked making shape impressions in their playdough. Theo and Gage used the rolling pin handles to poke the playdough. Deema and Jaren both wrapped the playdough around their rolling pins. Trae liked putting playdough inside the cookie cutters. Adding new objects expanded their interest and exploration of a basic sensory material.
Every day we spend time reading books and singing simple songs. Baby Beluga is a frequently requested class favorite. Lately we have been adding Ring Around The Rosie and several funny Turkey songs. Encouraging the kids to add movements to songs helps engage different parts of the brain and solidify their learning.
